Clarifying the concept of waterproof concrete and waterproofing solutions - Research on TCVN and BS standards

Abstract

Waterproofing issues in buildings after handover, particularly in the basement areas, create significant impacts on all involved parties and incur high costs, especially for the contractors. There are factors that have not been fully analyzed to determine the causes, but there seems to be an "implicit assumption" that all faults are attributed to the contractor. This study by the authors defines issues related to waterproof concrete and waterproofing solutions according to TCVN (Vietnamese Standards) as well as BS, ACI standards, to clarify several related concepts such as "water resistance," "waterproofing," and the solutions provided by the BS standards for waterproofing design.
