The role of competence development and performance evaluation in enhancing work motivation among employees in Vietnam’s railway transportation business sector
Abstract
This study analyzes the role of competency development and performance evaluation in the relationship between influencing factors (working conditions, job characteristics, technological application in railway transportation, salary, benefits and rewards, corporate policies in the railway transportation business, and support from superiors) and work motivation of employees in Vietnam’s railway transportation business sector. Survey data were collected from two labor groups: the service and direct production group, which directly interacts with customers (passengers and cargo owners), and the management-administrative group. The results show that competency development and performance evaluation play a significant mediating role, transforming the impact of independent factors into positive work motivation. The SEM model demonstrates a high fit with empirical data (Chi-square/df = 1.267, GFI = 0.875, CFI = 0.944, TLI = 0.955, RMSEA = 0.026, PCLOSE = 1.000).
