Study on the apparent cohesion of reinforced embankment by geogrid layers based on finite element model

Abstract

This paper presents the current popular analytical models for determining the apparent cohesion of reinforced embankments by geogrid layers. The authors apply Plaxis 2D software to simulate the behavior of the geogrid-reinforced soil under the effect of loads. From the simulation results, the authors give a way to determine the apparent adhesive and consider the influence of some factors on the interaction characteristics between the reinforcement and the soil. Comparison of the results from the proposed calculation with analytical methods to make conclusions and recommendations.
