Abstract

Small bored piles are now widely used in small and medium-sized civil works in urban areas. However, determining the bearing capacity of piles by static axial compressive test is difficult due to space limitations. O-cell static compression test to determine the bearing capacity of piles is a potential alternative in theses cases. This paper presents preliminary results when applying the O-cell test for small bored piles, with 600 mm and 800 mm of diameter. The bearing capacity of the pile is determined from the O-cell test according to the traditional Osterber method and the modified method. The analysis results for two piles illustrate the verification of the bearing capacity of small bored piles by the Ocell test.
