Some results of a survey to assess the housing situations among ethnic minority and Northern mountainous communities in Vietnam
Abstract
The paper presents some results of a survey that assesses the current state of housing for ethnic minorities in Vietnam’s northern mountainous regions, which preserves their ancient and primitive culture. Their houses are damaged and temporary due to the remoteness and hardship of their living and travel conditions, which do not meet their basic needs and livelihoods. The results of the research provide a basis for conserving the diversity of traditional values and developing the social life of the mountainous areas. The research also suggests some criteria and guidelines for building housing that meets the needs and aspirations of the ethnic minorities, while respecting their tradition and sustainability.
Keywords: Housing; ethnic minorities; northern mountainous regions; survey; damaged condition.
