THE RATE OF OVERWEIGHT AND OBESITY AMONG STUDENTS - A STUDY AT HIEP THANH PRIMARY SCHOOL

Abstract

Studying 427 students at Hiep Thanh Primary School, Thu Dau Mot City, Binh Duong Province, from September 2020 to March 2021 aims at determining the prevalence of overweight and obesity among students. Students' height and weight were measured by anthropometric methods, data were entered into WHO Anthro Plus software to assess nutritional status Z-score BMI by age and sex. Collected data we statistics, analyze and evaluate the overweight and obesity status of students. The research results show that the rate of overweight and obesity among students in the whole school is 46.60%, of which overweight is 21.78%, obesity is 24.82%; the proportion of overweight and obese male and female students was 28.10% and 18.50%, respectively. The rate of overweight and obesity of the 9-year-old group accounted for the highest rate of 56.79%; followed by the group of 8 years old 50.00%; and the lowest is the group of 6 year old students 40.00%. This rate of overweight and obesity is very high, so it is necessary to conduct interventions to control related factors to reduce this rate.
