Abstract

This study evaluated the biomass of Eleocharis ochrostachys, a dominant plant species in Tram Chim National Park, to guide the expansion of sustainable livelihoods for local communities. Sampling was conducted in 3 representative areas (recovery, undisturbed, plowed) in 2 periods at the end of the flood season in 2024 using 1 m² standard plots, counting tree density, determining fresh biomass and dry biomass of Eleocharis ochrostachys. The results showed that the density of Kim tapioca decreased over the two surveys, reflecting the impact of water levels on vegetation growth. The average fresh and dry biomass varied between areas, reflecting different growing conditions; the total fresh biomass was estimated at 86.88 tons and 157.94 tons, the total dry biomass was 8.51 tons and 19.35 tons in the first and second sampling periods, respectively. These biomass data are an important basis for assessing the potential and economic value of Kim tapioca. Kim tapioca stems can be used as handicraft materials to contribute to improving sustainable livelihoods for local communities.
