STATCOM APPLICATION FOR VOLTAGE REGULATION AND REACTIVE POWER COMPENSATION FOR POWER SYSTEMS

Abstract

This paper proposes a method to adjust the voltage and reactive power compensation for the 500kV power system which consists of three bus. This method uses a 48-pulse STATCOM made based on power converter 6-pulses VSC, topology of 6-pulses VSCs is connected to four phase-shifting transformer to reduced to the level of harmonics lowest. The order of the design steps of STATCOM controller is presented along with its simulation when applying to power systems. The simulation results were in the normal state and fault state showed the effectiveness of its response to the proposed method.
