ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION IN FARMING IN NEW RURAL COMMUNES

Abstract

This paper is based on data set of the research project “Xay dung nong thon moi [Establishing the new rural commune] in Ho Chi Minh City, the situation and solutions for sustainable development” at Tan Thanh Tay commune, Cu Chi district, HCMC.  “Disrespect - Respect theory is applied to analyze the relationship between economic development and environmental protection in farming in the new rural areas. The results show that the process constructing “New rural communes” in HCMC has positively effected in socio-economic development and improving spiritual life in rural areas. However, the process constructing in the rural “xay dung nong thon moi” at early stage due to the pressure of economic development, some communes as well as households have neglected to protect the environment and food safety in farming. However, at a later stage, the City's policy of shifting into clean and mart agriculture, that applied science and technology into agricultural development then, the people are more conscious of sustainable economic development, ie both economic development and environmental protection awareness.
