EDUCATIONAL FEATURES IN VO HONG'S SHORT STORIES

Abstract
Vo Hong (1921-2013) is a famous writer in the period before and after 1975, from Ngan Son village, Tuy An district, Phu Yen province. Vo Hong's main occupation is teaching. Therefore, his literature focuses on the biggest topic of education. With more than 20 short stories about school, writer Vo Hong mentions all aspects of school culture, and of course, the educational function from short stories is outstanding. His short stories focus on three main educational issues: education in love for the motherland, education in gratitude and education on morality and human dignity. With a simple voice, rich in emotion but very close, he easily penetrates the readers’ mind, helping the readers perceive the lesson of being human gently.
The survey paper on education in Vo Hong's short stories before 1975 used mainly a cultural approach. Thereby, it shows the value of Vo Hong's literature helping to perceive life to educate personalities and lifestyles for generations of readers. The survey helps us to see the core values in the spirit of human education and human morality, which are clearly shown through each story: gratitude, love for the motherland and how to build a kind lifestyle.
