The effects of extensive reading on English reading skills of nursing students at Thanh Dong University

Abstract
The author conducted twelve-week action research on forty second-year nursing students who volunteered to participate in the study, to find out to what extent extensive reading helps improve students' reading comprehension. Forty students who participated in an extensive reading project, chose one book each week from a list of 60 graded readers to read. The graded readers are written from 300 to 700 headwords by the publishers of Oxford bookworm, Macmillan Readers and Penguin Readers. The data collection tool includes pre-test and post-test. The obtained data are entered into SPSS software version 22.0 for processing. The results of the study showed that there was a significant improvement in the post-test compared to the pre-test. It can be seen that extensive reading could help students improve reading comprehension.
