Research to propose the cost estimate process applied BIM suitable for Vietnam

Abstract
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the process of creating and using information throughout the life cycle of a building. Application of BIM in the construction industry and in cost estimation is in the early stages. Existing cost estimation in Vietnam is carried out at the project preparation stage, mainly based on the construction quantity determined from the design documents. In the BIM model, the construction quantity is determined based on BIM tools without following a specific process, so the accuracy of the construction quantity is not guaranteed according to the regulations of Vietnam. On the other hand, this quantity is often not immediately usable for the cost estimation, but must go through the next editing steps, causing time consuming as well as error prone. The article proposes a cost estimation process for BIM application in accordance with regulations in Vietnam in order to promote the application of BIM in the construction industry, as well as ensure accuracy and ease in controlling quantity and cost.
