Personal data protection: “Right to be forgotten” as regulations of European Union and recommendations for Vietnam

The European Union (EU) is a pioneering region to enacting the “Right to be Forgotten” in data protection laws. The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation is currently the most clarified and specific law on this right. Meanwhile in Vietnam, Decree No. 13/2023/NĐ-CP on Personal Data Protection officially came into force from July 1, 2023, indicating that we are actively taking initiatives in the regulations on personal data protection and the “Right to be Forgotten” specifically on the global legal map. However, there are still many unresolved issues on this matter that lawmakers need to regulates legal framework for the “Right to be Forgotten” on this digital era. Regulations of EU on this right can be used as a good reference.
