Abstract

In this study, we present the results of synthesizing lanthanum benzoate complex and analyzing its corrosion inhibition ability on zinc substrates, opening up potential applications in developing protective coatings for zinc metal. The structural morphology of the LaBz complex was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). Electrochemical technique was used to evaluate the inhibition efficiency of LaBz complex for corrosion of zinc substrate. The obtained experimental results show that the LaBz complex is about 30 nanometers in size and uniform. The LaBz complex achieved a corrosion inhibition efficiency of 68.53% after 2 h of immersion in a 0.1 M NaCl solution. This study has proposed an effective corrosion inhibitor for zinc substrates and oriented its application in protective coatings for zinc metal substrates.
