Abstract

Self-learning competence is the most fundamental capability that educators always focus on and wish to develop in learners. This ability helps students to acquire new knowledge as well as to form and develop many other important skills throughout their learning process. Especially since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the process of direct learning in classrooms has faced many difficulties, and at times, even interruptions. Students with good self-learning competences are able to adapt more easily and are less affected compared to others. The objective of this research is to develop a toolkit for assessing the self-learning competences of students at universities and colleges in Vietnam. Through analyzing related research and combining practical experience in teaching, the author has systematized the theoretical basis and proposed a process for developing a toolkit to assess the self-learning competences of students. Concurrently, a toolkit for assessing the self-learning competences of students at universities and colleges in Vietnam has been developed. The framework for self-learning competences and the assessment toolkit provide a scientific basis for instructors to reference and follow in order to develop the self-learning competences of their students, ensuring the training of generations of students with strong self-learning competences, easily adaptable to the rapid development of science and technology, and meeting the demands of the labor marker.
