Abstract

The application of context-based learning towards professional competency development has been a topic of interest to researchers recently so as to improve the quality of training in higher education, responding to the constant changes of professional jobs in the digital transformation period. In order to clarify the research content on this topic, we used a systematic assessment method of publications on the Scopus database from 2008 to present. The results of content analysis of 13 publications relevant to the research topic showed that the context-based learning is a suitable approach to develop professional competencies for students, helping to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the requirements of real jobs. However, due to the limited number of studies, there are still some issues to be clarified for the purpose of improving the effectiveness of this approach in practice. The results of the article are recommendations on research directors that the authors interested in this topic can realize in the future.
