Abstract

Biomedical materials have stringent requirements regarding their properties and biocompatibility. To enhance biocompatibility, a crucial aspect of development is that biomedical materials must have non-toxic components essential for the body. Here, we report the fabrication of ZnTiO3:Er3+/Yb3+ thin films via the hydrothermal method at 200ᵒC for optical and biomedical application. The morphology and structure of the material were investigated and analyzed using XRD, SEM, and Raman spectroscopy. Under 980 nm laser excitation, the ZnTiO3:Er3+ /Yb3+ film exhibited upconversion luminescence from Er3+ ion transitions, with emission peaks observed at 410, 480, 525, 545, and 660 nm. The upconversion luminescence was enhanced by varying the doping concentration of Yb3+ ions. The optical intensity of the material demonstrated that its optical properties varied with the Yb3+ doping concentration. For the purpose of studying biomedical properties, ZnTiO3:Er3+/Yb3+ films were subjected to baby hamster kidney (BHK) cell culture. After 48h, BHK cells exhibited good growth, indicating high biocompatibility of the material. The obtained results suggest that the material has potential applications in the optical and biomedical field.
