Abstract

Portuguese were a pioneering force in the process of expanding trade and missionary to the East in the 16th and 17th centuries.They soon built a system of intercontinental factory from Lisbon to Japan. Therein, Nagasaki was one of important factories to maintained Portuguese's trade network in East Asia, contributing to the great profits for Portuguese. This paper analyzes Nagasaki's role in maintaining and developing Portuguese's trade network in East Asia.
