Abstract

This study applied GIS technology in establishing a hierarchical map of soil erosion due to rain in Van Ban district, Lao Cai province based on the formula of the universal land loss equation of USLE, including 5 system maps: map of land cover coefficient; map of rain erosion coefficient; soil erosion resistance map; map of erosion coefficient of terrain and coefficient map due to cultivation measures. The research objective is to identify spatial levels of soil erosion at the study area. Research results have identified erosion levels: erosion is very strong, strong, medium, light and does not erode. In which the area of eroded land accounts for over 52.24% of natural land area. The results would help local authorities and land users plan to apply measures to effectively prevent soil erosion.
