FOLK SONGS – THE PLACE TO PRESERVE THE CULTURAL VALUES OF PU PEO PEOPLE

Among the large family of Vietnamese ethnic groups, Pu Peo is one of the five ethnic minorities with the smallest population (less than 1,000 people), living mainly in Ha Giang province. Nowadays, Pu Peo still preserves a long-standing cultural tradition with its own identity, including their folk song – a place that preserves many traditional cultural values, but not many people known it. This article introduces cultural values in Pu Peo folk songs and suggests ways to preserve and promote this valuable document. Throught surveys, statistics and analysis of the content value of Pu Peo folk songs, we find that the folk songs reflect the most truthful about the material and spiritual life of the Pu Peo people. However, in the current trend of intergration and cultural exchange between regions, ethnic groups and countries, the Pu Peo folk songs as well as other folklore cultures of other ethnic groups are now in progress at risk of disappearance, deformation. The study and introduction of Pu Peo folk songs as a way to nurture and nurture ethnic cultural values in a multicultural enviroment is essential.
