INTERACTION IN EFL CLASSROOM AT SAIGON UNIVERSITY

Abstract

The study was conducted at Saigon University to find out the current situation of interaction in English between lecturers and students, between students and students in non-professional English classes, to learn the benefits in terms of learning that students can gain from interactive activities and the factors that influence interaction during English lessons. The study was conducted based on survey data of 493 students and 14 lecturers, combining observation of interactive activities in non-professional English classes (English I, II, III) in the academic year 2019-2020. The survey results show positive English teaching at Saigon University, different perceptions of students about the benefits of interacting in English with lecturers and their peers and factors that encourage or limit student interaction. Based on the results obtained, the research team makes some recommendations regarding the current teaching of non-professional English at the training institution.
