ANALYSIS OF FACTORS AFFECTING HOUSHOLD SOLID WASTE GENERATION IN TIEN HAI DISTRICT, THAI BINH PROVINCE

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the factors affecting houshold solid waste generation in Tien Hai district, Thai Binh. The results of the study in 3 communes and 1 town showed a coefficient of solid waste generation from 0.5 to 0.8 kg/person/day. Factors affecting solid waste generation include income, education, age, occupation and houshold members. Houshold members factor shows highest impact on the generation of solid waste. When increasing 1 person, the houshold solid waste increases 1.44 kg/day. The income factor positively affects the amount of household waste generated, if the income increases by 1 unit, the amount of HSW increases by 0.51 kg/household/day. Educational factors have a negative effect on the amount of HSW generated. The higher educational houshold show less generation of solid waste. Age and occupation factors show no significant affect on household waste generation.
