Abstract

The paper presents the results of the capacity assessment of eight key pedagogical universities based on the teacher education institution development index. Especially, this study focuses on analyzing the strengths and limitations of the capacity of training and retraining teachers for general education in seven areas of the indicator set. The author uses practical research methods to collect data on the training and retraining capacity of selected pedagogical universities. The data are analyzed by mathematical statistics for the purpose of assessing and comparing the competencies of pedagogical universities. Since then, the paper has proposed a number of solutions to improve the capacity of the key pedagogical universities to meet the requirements of renovating the general education curriculum and international integration. The research results show that the Vietnamese teacher education system still has many limitations and does not meet the requirements of international integration.
