KNOWLEDGE ABOUT PREVENTION OF INJURIES BY SCHARF OBJECTS TO NURSES AND MIDWIVES AT 7 CLINICAL DEPARTMENTS OF THAI NGUYEN HOSPITAL A

Abstract
The injury caused by sharp objects (ISO) such as needles, scalpels, broken glass to medical staff is one of the most frequent and common injuries in the world leading to high risk of occupational diseases for health workers, especially nurses and midwives. This article is conducted to describe knowledge of prevention of injuries by sharf objects in nurses and midwives at clinical departments of Thai Nguyen Hospital A in 2019 with a sample size of 270 nurses, midwives participated in the study from January to August 2019. The results showed that: The rate of nurses and midwives with knowledge of preventing injuries by sharf objects was 75.9% (≥ 12 points) and 24.1% had unsatisfactory knowledge (<12 points). The percentages of nurses and midwives with correct knowledge of all contents of standard prevention, safe injection, and proper treatment of injuries caused by sharf objects were 60%, 61.9% and 75.9% respectively. There was an association between sharp-object injuries with knowledge of safe injections, infectious diseases, and needle closure after use (p <0.05).
