Abstract

The paper introduces an alternative refrigeration system using the silica-gel/water pair driven by industrial waste heat or renewable energy sources such as solar energy. Based on a thermodynamic simulation of an adsorption cooling system, the relation of the system efficiency and the temperature of the heat sources was conducted. The results showed that the temperature of supply heat source for the system should be stable at around 80 ℃, and the cold heat source should be about 30 ℃. With a given operating condition, the chilled water outlet temperature was about 10 ℃, the specific cooling capacity (SCP) was about 268.2 W/kg silica gel, and the coefficient of performance (COP) was about 0.45.
