CLINICAL, PARACLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND RISK DETERMINANTS OF IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA AMONG PATIENT FROM 2 MONTHS TO 60 MONTHS TREATED IN THAI NGUYEN A HOSPITAL

Abstract

This study aims to describe clinical, paraclinical characteristics and risk determinants of iron deficiency anemia among children from 2 months to 60 months. Cross sectional study of 178 children with iron deficiency anemia were treated in Thai Nguyên A hospital from July 2021 to June 2022. 74.7% were boys, 2.3% were girls, the disease was more common in boys than in girls: 3/1. Iron deficiency anemia was more common in the 6 - 24 months group (78.1%) The most common clinical symptoms were pale mucous membranes (91.6%), anorexic (59%), pale skin (56.7%), rickets (35.4%), diarrhea (22.5%), and malnutrition (21.4%). Subclinical: Hemoglobin decreased: 95.69±13.28, Mean corpuscular Volume decreased: 66.09±9.3, Red Cell Distribution With decreased: 17.7±12.37, Red Blood Cell, Hemoglobin, serum iron, and ferritin were decreased. Factors associated with iron deficiency anemia were early supplementation, geography, mother's education level, and iron supplementation for children. Anemia is common in children from 6 to 24 months with clinical characteristics of iron deficiency anemia: pale mucous membranes, anorexic, pale skin, rickets, diarrhea, and malnutrition, subclinical characteristics of iron deficiency anemia were hypochromic microcytic anemia, moderate anemia is common; Among the early supplementation, geography, mother's education level, and iron supplementation for children non significant effect on anemia.
