Abstract

This study was carried out to propose a circular economic model of household domestic solid waste management for Bac Ninh city. We have conducted the design of questionnaires to survey households and environmental managers; surveying activities of collection, transportation and treatment of domestic solid waste; take domestic solid waste samples to determine the volume and composition. The results have showed that the average volume of domestic solid waste generated by households in Bac Ninh city was 0.65 kg/person/day, the total amount generated was about 169 tons/day (nearly 62 thousand tons/year). In particular, up to 94.4% of the domestic solid waste volume can be recycled and reused, including 21.74% recyclable waste and 72.66% biodegradable organic waste. The circular economic models of domestic solid waste management at household and city level have been proposed for Bac Ninh city. The transformation from the old model of domestic solid waste management (collection - transport - treatment) to the circular economic model of domestic solid waste management is a common trend of Vietnam and the world, contributing to saving resources, minimizing treatment costs and environmental protection.
