Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the lytic activity of bacteriophages (phage N9 and B80) against multi-antibiotic resistance Escherichia coli isolated from Pangasius production chain were tested on simulated media of filleted Pangasius and chicken extracts at different MOI (100-1000) and incubated at 4±1oC. The results showed that lytic activity of both phage N9 (MOI 1000) and B80 (MOI 100) against their bacterial hosts were achieved during from 1 to 24 h exposure, specially E. coli count were <1 log CFU/mL after 24 h treatment on simulated media of the food extracts incubated at 4±1oC. Therefore, this study indicated that bacteriophages were potential agents as biocontrol agents for controlling antibiotic resistant E. coli as well as other pathogens in food production chain.
