Abstract
This study described clinical and paraclinical characteristics in mechanically ventilated neonates at Thai Nguyen National Hospital. Descriptive and cross – sectional study were performed on 187 mechanically ventilated neonates at Centre for Paediatric Medicine - Thai Nguyen National Hospital from July 2021 to June 2022. The results showed that the rate of male infants 57.8%, 90.4% of children ≤ 1 day old; gestational age <37 weeks (74.9%), birthweight <2500 grams (62.6%). Commonly seen signs included: Cyanosis (100%); tachypnea (84.5%); grunting (77.5%); severe retractions (58.3%); coagulation disorders (86.1%); hypoalbuminemia (79.1%) and hypoglycemia (41.7%). Neonatal respiratory distress with lower the birth weight and the smaller the gestational age, the higher the risk of requiring invasive mechanical ventilation. Invasive mechanical ventilation neonates have signs of bradypnea, apnea, SpO2 (oxygen supplementation) <90%, hypothermia, hypotonia, hypoalbuminemia, hypocalcemia and coagulation disorders were higher than those in non-invasive mechanically ventilated, the difference was statistically significant (p <0.05).
