Abstract

Mangroves play an important role and are considered "steel shields" in the coastal area of each country. Climate change and inappropriate exploitation are the main causes of the decline in mangrove areas in many parts of the world. The purpose of this study is to monitor changes in mangrove forests along the coast of Thai Binh province in the period 2000 to 2020. Landsat image data for the years 2000, 2010, and 2020 were processed and interpreted by Envi software to identify the current status of mangroves in the study area. The spatial analysis function in GIS was used to build a matrix and map of mangrove changes in the above period. The results show that the area of mangroves had a strong fluctuation in the two districts of Thai Thuy and Tien Hai, in which mangroves tended to decrease in the period 2000-2010 and recover again in the period 2010-2020. The research results provide a valuable reference for the management and protection of mangroves in Thai Binh province.
