Abstract

For any teaching programs or subjects, choosing and evaluating a coursebook before bringing it into use is an essential step to be taken by lecturer. At School of Foreign Languages – Thai Nguyen University, coursebook evaluation is conducted every year; however, the coursebook Life Upper – Intermediate used for third year students has not been evaluated systematically and properly. This study is to evaluate the suitability of the book and the course syllabus in terms of aims and contents. Based on the mismatches found after the evaluation process, suggestions for adaptation are given to enhance the teaching and learning process. The data for the study was first collected through document analysis and questionnaire. Data collected was then analyzed by matching and percentage calculation before being commented by the researcher. The findings point unsuitable criteria including the possibility to enhance listening skills and support the parallel subject.
