VILLAGE MARKETS NETWORK IN THAI NGUYEN PROVINCE BEFORE 1945

Abstract

In the past, the village markets network was born as a result of the development of goods and handicraft relations. In the plains, midland and mountainous areas, village markets have very important roles in economy, culture, and social life. With the use of historical and logical methods, combined with other methods, this study aims to introduce the characteristics of village markets network in Thai Nguyen province before 1945. Thereby, the article aims to reflect the economic, cultural and life picture of Thai Nguyen people at that time. The research results show that village markets network in Thai Nguyen province before 1945 had both similarities and differences compared to markets in other localities, in term of the ways of organizing markets, place and time to organize markets, composition of traders... The establishment of village markets network in Thai Nguyen contributed to breaking the closed, self-sufficient economy of the residents. The existence of village markets network in Thai Nguyen in history and in modern times has a great role in terms of economy, as well as culture and society of the residents.
