THE INDIRECT SPEECH ACTS OF PRESENTATION IN AUTHOR’S WORD OF THE TALE OF KIEU (NGUYEN DU)

Abstract

The tale of Kieu is an outstanding work of the great poet Nguyen Du. The question is why Truyen Kieu is not a copy, it has become an outstanding work although borrowing the plot of Kim Van Kieu truyen (Thanh Tam Tai Nhan). It is because of Nguyen Du's enthusiasm and magical creativity in every word. In order to contribute to the elucidation of Nguyen Du's artistic talent in using language, we carried out a survey, described and analysed the indirect speech acts of presentation in the author's words of Truyen Kieu. Based on the theory of speech acts, applying the text analysis method and some other methods, this research showed that the indirect speech acts of presentation in the narrator's words were very commonly used by the author. This form of expression plays an important part in revealing the author's attitude and feelings in the role of the narrator. Thus, the indirect speech acts of presentation in the author's words have contributed to helping The tale of Kieu acquire unique values, becoming a masterpiece of Vietnam and humanity.
