This paper studies the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in financial statement auditing; focusing on three main aspects: supporting data analysis, detecting fraud, and supporting audit report writing. Through a synthesis of recent studies (from 2022–2025), this study focuses on the application of AI to analyze large volumes of data quickly to detect anomalies, helping auditors identify potential fraud faster than traditional methods. Generative AI is also capable of generating reports and summarizing financial information in natural language, supporting auditors in drafting reports effectively. The study compares generative AI with other AI technologies currently used in auditing (such as big data analysis, machine learning, etc.) and finds that generative AI excels in the ability to understand and generate natural language, helping to interact and explain audit results more intuitively. However, AI also poses challenges in terms of accuracy, reliability and data security. The study also proposes a research model for integrating generative AI into the financial audit process, viewing generative AI as a complementary tool to help improve audit quality and efficiency; making recommendations on the prudent and effective application of generative AI, combined with other AI technologies to enhance audit quality
