Abstract

Natural disasters in Vietnam are a direct cause of obstruct to economic growth, sustainable development and poverty increase leading to a major obstacle to the country's development goals, especially in the agricultural sector and infrastructure development. In Vietnam, losses from water-related disasters (hurricanes, floods, droughts) account for a large proportion of over 80% of losses caused by natural disasters, especially in the Central provinces. So far, Vietnam has issued and effectively implemented numerous solutions to prevent and mitigate the harmful effects of water-related disasters in the context of climate change. However, besides the achieved aspects, there are also certain limitations that need to be overcome. This article presents the results of assessing the current solutions to reduce the harms of natural disasters on agricultural production and infrastructure in some provinces in the Central. Based on that recommendations are made to strengthen natural disaster prevention for the socio-economic development of the region as well as of the country.
