Foresight approach in orienting policies for environmental protection of craft villages

Abstract

   Craft villages are a unique form of rural. Along with the country’s economic development, craft villages also develop, however, their expanding scale leads to waste generation, increasing environmetal pollution. Over the past time, the management and treatment of waste in craft villages still has many inadequacies. Therefore,
to support solving this problem, the foresight approach is considered as a method of exchange and agreement between different sectors of society, thereby discovering many values that can contribute to society, and at the same time intergrating them in the process of foresight issues to be discussed, propose policies into an integrated, interdisciplinary process. The foresight approach can support forecasting in the development of environmental strategies in general as well as the development of strategies and policies for environmental protection of craft villages in particular. Accordingly, environmetal pollution of craft villages need to be integrated right in the process of discussion, evaluation, analysis, and proposal of appropriate strategies and polices. The paper mentions: (i) Pollution in craft villages currently affects the rural environment in Vietnam; (ii) To propose advantages in applying the foresight approach in the formulation of long-term polices on sustainable development and environmental protection in craft villages.
