ASSESSMENT OF THE ROLE OF MANGROVE FOREST IN THUY TRUONG COMMUNE, THAI THUY DISTRICT, THAI BINH PROVINCE

Abstract

Mangrove forest plays an important role with the livelihood of coastal communities. Depending on the natural-economical- social characteristics, ecosystem services of mangrove in localities are different. ThuyTruong is a coastal commune with a mangrove area of 784.7ha. This study was conducted to identify the role of mangrove by assessing the ecosystem services of the mangrove in ThuyTruong as well as its impact on the livelihoods. The study has identified that mangroves here provide the following ecosystem services: Providing services; Regulatory services; Support services; Cultural services. Furthermore, mangroves also play an important role in ensuring livelihoods, raising incomes.
