STIGMATIZATION AND DISCRIMINATION AGAINST THE LGBT COMMUNITY: AN ANALYSIS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF STIGMA THEORY

Abstract

This paper analyzes the stigmatization and discrimination faced by the LGBT community through the lens of Stigma Theory in its three levels: individual, interpersonal, and sociocultural. Stigma and discrimination are considered major barriers for the LGBT community (gay, bisexual, and transgender people). The paper identifies existing discriminations against the LGBT community in the fields of education, health, and work. Then, it gives some recommendations to minimize stigma and discrimination against this group.
