Abstract

Te article partially reflects the research results “Social work services for children with mental disorders in Quang Ninh province” conducted in 2018. Te objectives of the study are describing the current situation of children with mental disorders in Quang Ninh province and fnding out the difculties and needs of parents/caregivers of children with mental retardation and social work services for children with mental disorders in the province, thereby proposing some solutions to contribute to the improvement of the quality and efciency of those services. Te research used quantitative and qualitative research methods on target groups such as parents, caregivers of children with mental retardation, preschool teachers, doctors, staff, caregivers and therapists for children with mental retardation at social at social assistance facilities. Research results show that children with mental disorders in Quang Ninh account for a signifcant proportion. Families with children with mental disorders are facing many difculties in detecting and identifying types of mental disorders in children; caring for and educating children at home. Most families have the need to be provided with knowledge and skills; consulted; given favorable conditions in terms of time and partially fnancial support to provide best care for and educate children with disabilities, however, they face difculties in accessing and using intervention/support services
