Abstract

Objectives: Describe the current status of health education activities of nurses for patients when they are discharged from the urology surgery department in Hanoi Medial University hospital.

Material and Methods: A cross – sectional descriptive study was used by the interview questionnaire among 188 surgical patients at Urology surgery department in Hanoi Medical University Hospital (HMUH) in 2020. 

Results: All patients were satisfied with the nursing health education activities before being discharged. Instructions and counseling for discharged patients have been implemented. In which, announcing the discharge plan and guiding the administrative procedures were implemented most fully. The least instructed activity was post – discharge sexual activity instructions (39.9%). The patients were educated mainly by direct talk method (100%). A mere 5.3% of patients were guided through leaflets, posters.

Conclusions: All patients were received nursing health education before being discharged and satisfied with this activity. However, nurses need a variety of health education methods in order to be more effective and contribute to increasing treatment results.
