The national migration policy of the Russian Federation

Abstract

The influx of migrants has played a huge positive role in Russia's socio-economic development over the past 20 years. However, in recent years, Russia has lost its attractiveness in migration, which is raising the barrier for migrants to integrate into society. Migration policy focused on temporary labor migration is limited, it does not adapt to migrants and their integration into the host society. Therefore, the Russian Federation has proposed a number of main trends of migration policy to create a legal migration stream that contributes to solving problems in socio-economic development, demography and improving the quality of life of the people, ensuring the state security, protecting the national labor market, maintaining peace and consensus among ethnic groups and territories in Russian society.
