Abstract

This study explores the impact of gamification on intrinsic motivation in the context of higher education in Vietnam, focusing on the role of immersive elements in gamification in fulfilling basic psychological needs, including autonomy, competence, and relatedness. A survey was conducted with 512 students to assess the impact of immersion in gamified learning environments on intrinsic motivation by fulfilling basic psychological needs. This study contributes to the Self-Determination Theory by affirming that satisfying basic psychological needs is a key factor in promoting intrinsic motivation through gamified educational experiences. These findings provide valuable insights for academic administrators and policymakers in designing effective gamification strategies to boost student motivation and improve learning outcomes in higher education.
