Abstract

The reduplication of monosyllabic adjectives (单音节形容词重叠) is an extremely important grammatical point in Chinese, and it is also a popular rhetorical method. However, the use of the reduplication of monosyllabic adjectives is always a difficulty for Chinese Language students. Through testing and surveying the ability to apply the reduplication of monosyllabic adjectives, the authors discovered five mistakes that TVU students often make when using the reduplication of monosyllabic adjectives. The first one is combining the reduplication of monosyllabic adjectives with degree adverbs; the second one is combining the reduplication of monosyllabic adjectives with the suffixes “着”, “过”, “了”; the third one is after the reduplication of monosyllabic adjectives, cannot directly use “不” or “没” to negate; the fourth one is the error of using the reduplication of monosyllabic adjectives in comparison sentences, and the fifth one is the error of missing the particle “的”. The main causes of these errors are the influence of the mother tongue, teaching materials, and teaching methods.
