Abstract
STEAM education method helps studentsconnect learned knowledge with practice. This articleaims to design a STEAM-based lesson titledSpecialized vinegar fermentation barrel within thetheme of "Substances and their transformations"focusing on enhancing the representative competencyof students in Grade 8 Natural Sciences. The studyinvolved conducting a survey and implementingpedagogical experiments based on a cross-sectionalsurvey method and a pre-and-post-interventionexperimental design with randomized groups. Afterthe intervention, the proportion of students achievingthe highest competency level (Level 3) increasedsignificantly, from below 20% to 40-50%, and theaverage representative competency score improvedfrom 6.06 to 7.44 on a 10-point scale. The results of thepedagogical experiment demonstrated positivedevelopment in learners’ competencies andhighlighted the feasibility and necessity of integratingSTEAM themes to foster representative competency
