A FLEXIBLE CONTROL METHOD APPLIED TO A VSC-HVDC INTEGRATING TO OFFSHORE WIND FARMS

Abstract
Currently, offshore wind farms are strongly developing in Vietnam. The VSCHVDC system is a promissing solution to connect offshore wind farms to an
existing AC grid. This paper presents a control system for a voltage source
converter that improves AC voltage stability for the hybrid AC/DC with VSC-HVDC
links connecting offshore wind farms. The main advantage of this control
method is that it allows the automatic change of active and reactive current
limits, which in turn can help improve reactive power support when the ac grid
occurs leading to a large drop in voltage. A hybrid AC/DC network considering
dynamic processes on AC grid is modeled in PSCAD software. The simulation
results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
