Abstract

In the studies of the August Revolution in 1945, historians in Vietnam and abroad often focus on the struggles in the political and military fields, while the diplomatic maneuvers and struggles have not received sufficient attention. This study will show that the diplomatic mobilizations and struggles of the Viet Minh Front, especially the diplomatic struggles carried on by Ho Chi Minh himself, played an extremely important role. These struggles not only contributed to developing the prestige, influence and political legitimacy of the Viet Minh in the international arena but also directly contributed to the efforts of the Viet Minh in neutralizing the Japanese military troops and uniting the entire nation to successfully seize power in the second half of August 1945.
