Abstract

The two colonial exploitations the French carried out in Vietnam made considerable impact on the socio-economic life of the Vietnamese and the agricultural sciences and technologies were by no mean an exception. Besides the traditional experiences in the agricultural production, Western advanced sciences and technologies were also introduced into Vietnam. Most of the scientific and technological changes took place in Hanoi, the capital of the French Indochinese Federation.

This article focuses on the following aspects: 1. Hanoi as a center of research organizations for agricultural sciences and technologies (or research organizations relating to agricultural sciences and technologies) as well as the agricultural management organizations for both Tonkin and the Indochinese Federation. 2. Hanoi becoming a diffusion center of agricultural sciences and technologies for the Indochinese Federation. 3. Hanoi as a center of training agricultural cadres for Indochina. 4. The transformation of Hanoi's agricultural economy under the impact of sciences and technologies.
