Abstract

Emotional intelligence (EI) is considered one of the most important factors that predicts individual success. This paper reports a study on EI of a group of 73 EFL pre-service teachers at Hue University of Foreign Languages and International Studies and its relationship with their academic achievement. Using the survey built on TEIQue-SF, the result of the study shows that students perceived they had moderate EI, with relatively high well-being but with low self-control and sociability. Also, the relationship between EI and academic achievement is not very significant in this study. The paper ends with implications for teacher education and for further research
