This article focuses on the basic functions of the San Diu family in Son Duong district, Tuyen Quang province such as human reproduction, economic unit, performance of social relations and education. Thereby, the author highlights the role of the San Diu family in preserving their cultural values  while improving the material and spiritual life of family members. Currently, not every San Diu family promotes the values recently inherited through traditional culture, but also deals with negative outside impacts to their autonomy and development.
