Communicative language teaching (CLT) is an educational method focused on using interaction as both the primary means and the ultimate goal of language learning. In CLT environments, learners engage in communication with both peers and instructors to learn and apply the target language. It has become increasingly popular in teaching English as a foreign language at colleges and universities in Vietnam, especially in grammar instruction. Communicative grammar is highly regarded for its ability to develop communication competence compared to traditional grammar teaching methods. This paper briefly compares traditional grammar teaching with CLT and suggests how CLT can be integrated into classroom activities to enhance the quality of grammar teaching and learning for both teachers and non-English major students.
